Sony Doesnt See PlayStation Vita Price Cut as a Solution

Analysts have lately been suggesting that Sony drop the price of the PlayStation Vita handheld in order to increase sales, but it seems that the leadership of the company believes that it can make it more attractive by simply adding more experiences for it.

Andrew House, who is the president and the chief executive officer at Sony Computer Entertainment, has told MCV that, “We thought we gave Vita a good shout during the conference.

รข€œWe demonstrated by highlighting things like YouTube, that there is commitment to give the range of network services, making sure that it has a multi-functional aspect and then I think there is another opportunity, a sort of third pillar to the strategy, which is how we can fully take advantage of a digitally connected device.”

The operating principle for new Vita content seems to be “define and differentiate” and House believes that many players will be attracted by the coming rollout of old PSOne titles.

The CEO also says that Sony needs to develop more ways of making sure that those who only plan to get digital content are well served and can obtain access to the same experiences that players have when turning to retail.

It seems that about 20 percent of all the content delivered to the PlayStation Vita is digital in nature and that percentage is set to increase in the coming months and years.

The PlayStation Vita is currently just barely outselling the normal version of the handheld on the home Japanese market.

The Nintendo 3DS faced a similar situation during the summer of 2011 and the hardware maker solved the problem by cutting the price by 30%.

The PlayStation Vita is also being promoted as a companion to the PlayStation 3 home console, with Sony saying that it can provide better interaction potential than the touch screen controller for the Wii U.
