Script of the Day: Spectrum

Spectrum is a jQuery plugin for creating nice looking color pickers. An essential component of the modern UIs, color pickers allow users to input a color code by selecting it with their mouse from a palette or from a color spectrum.

Made famous by photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, color pickers are currently a must-have widget in any web or desktop GUI.

We selected Spectrum as this day's script because it is very versatile, well-documented and full of interesting and useful features.

Created with no images at all, Spectrum is lightweight and very portable.

Many options can be added to a Spectrum color picker, including preset color palettes, ok/close buttons, the option to display the selected color code, support for hex, HSL or RGB color domains, real time updating of DOM elements, and many more.
