Reggie Fils-Aime Concerned About Insatiable Gaming Fans

Nintendo was accused of offering a limited number of details on future plans during the E3 2012 trade show, and one of the company leaders says that the fans̢۪ passion is impressive but it can at times feel overwhelming.

Reggie Fils-Aime, the boss of Nintendo of America, has told Kotaku that, “One of the things that, on one hand, I love and, on the other hand, that troubles me tremendously about not only our fanbase but about the gaming community at large is that, whenever you share information, the perspective is, ‘Thank you, but I want more.’ ‘Thank you, but give me more.’ I mean, it is insatiable.”

He offered the example of a new game in the Pikmin series, which gamers have been asking for some time, and says that the immediate reaction was not to explore how the third full game in the series might change the experience but to ask for more announcements.

Fils-Aime added, “I have heard people say, ‘You know, you’ve got these fantastic franchises, beyond what you’re doing in Smash Bros., isn’t there a way to leverage all these franchises?’ So we create Nintendo Land and they say, ‘Ho-hum, give me more.’ So it’s an interesting challenge.”

The executives need to pay attention to how the public reacts to announcements, but the Nintendo leader also says that business concerns are also important.

Wii Fit, for example, was widely regarded as a future failure when it was first shown, but it went on to sell more than 43 million copies all over the world and managed to single-handedly make the Balance Board peripheral a success.

Nintendo is currently preparing for the launch of the Wii U home console, which will take place before this year̢۪s Christmas shopping season.

The device will get a price and a full launch line-up later during the year.
