Nintendo Wii U Achievements Arent Mandatory for All Games

Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming Wii U will have an achievement system similar to the one used by Microsoft on the Xbox 360 or Sony on the PlayStation 3, but it won’t force developers to implement them into their games.

Hate it or love it, the notion of achievements is now a standard part of the gaming experience, with Microsoft kickstarting it through its Xbox 360 many years ago. Since then, other companies have replicated it, including Sony with its PS3 or PS Vita trophies.

Now, Nintendo has confirmed that a similar system will be supported by the Wii U, but the company won’t force developers to implement it into their own titles.

When asked by Kotaku about this move, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said that it was simply not Nintendo’s philosophy to tell developers what to do.

Are you happy that achievements will be present in at least some Wii U games or do you think they should be avoided?
