New App Allows You to Monitor Your Energy Consumption

The Raj Organization recently launched a new mobile app. Known as the Energy Saver, which is supposed to help regular folks spend less money on electricity by pin-pointing exactly which household appliances most “leech off” the grid.

With environmentalists going on and on about how everybody should work towards being more responsible when it comes to using energy – the main idea is to make sure nothing is wasted – it's no wonder that specialists should start looking into ways of helping people follow this green advice.

Thus, quite a lot of households, particularly those in the US, now come equipped with smart meters that supposedly monitor utilities and make the energy flow as efficient as possible.

Since the Energy Saver app is not presently used by many people, there is no telling whether it really is as useful as its manufacturers would have us believe, but what we do know about it so far suggests that this product might soon gain quite a lot of fans.

What makes the Energy Saver app so very special is the fact that it doesn't just record the overall energy consumption of a household, based on label-information about the electricity needs of various appliances.

As Earth Techling reports, this app takes into consideration actual utility rates and then indicates exactly which utilities use up the most energy and thus send electricity expenses through the roof.

What is even more interesting is that the Energy Saver also sheds a green light on the so-called “phantom loads,” which are basically amounts of electricity consumed by appliances when only plugged in.

Apparently, these “phantom loads” are responsible for an extra 10% on your electricity bills, so knowing exactly which utilities you really should unplug when leaving the house for longer periods of time might really come in handy.
