Indulge Your Cravings and Lose Weight with the Big Breakfast Diet

They don't say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing. Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz has devised a diet that promises to help you lose weight without having to give up the treats you love the most.

The only condition for this to happen is that you eat them in the morning at breakfast.

The diet, presented in Jakubowicz's book “The Big Breakfast Diet,” takes advantage of the body's circadian rhythms, which means you have to provide it with carbohydrates and protein in the morning to boost the metabolism.

You can also eat a meal higher in calories, but only on the condition that you decrease the calorie intake throughout the day.

As LiveStrong notes, Dr. Jakubowicz recommends a daily 1,200 calorie intake for women to lose weight.

It should be achieved as follows: breakfast of up to 600 calories, lunch of up to 400 calories and dinner of up to 200 calories.

The obvious advantage is that, by including sweets and other previously forbidden meals in your breakfast, you will be able to fight cravings more easily, assuming you get to feel them anymore.

This way, you can have donuts or chocolate or even pizza for breakfast, but only as long as you also include protein and carbs to fuel your body for the rest of the day.

Lunch is usually salad and some lean meat, while dinner is steamed greens or a boiled egg.

“Venezuelan researchers looked at 94 obese women, half of whom were on a low carb diet and the other half on the Big Breakfast Diet. According to the June 2008 Medical News Today, the findings presented at The 2008 Endocrine Society meeting showed those who ate a big breakfast lost 21 percent in body weight, while those on the low carb diet lost just 4.5 percent,” LiveStrong writes.

In other words, there is science behind this diet.

However, even though it comes with fewer restrictions and no dangerous supplements as other diets, this one too has its shortcomings.

For one, the aforementioned e-zine says, it does not encourage a healthy lifestyle by teaching you to eat healthily, but only to exercise strict calorie control.

At the same time, it promotes foods that are usually frowned upon, such as bacon and sweets, while placing zero focus on the importance of getting used to regular exercise.

In other words, The Big Breakfast Diet might be successful in the short run, but it's not ideal if you're looking for something to turn into a lifestyle.
