Treyarch Rethought All Aspects of Call of Duty for Black Ops 2

Despite being part of the Call of Duty franchise, the upcoming Black Ops 2 will be a different game and one of the leading developers working on the game hopes that players will come to approve of the changes that were made to the experience.

Speaking to Polygon Mark Lamia, who is the leader of Treyarch, has stated that his team “rethought everything, from setting, to the new toys to play with, to story branching, to meaningful choice inside the campaign. When we decided to talk to Activision about the branding of Black Ops, it was very deliberate, like: ‘Look, Black Ops is more of a characteristic of the personality of the game’.”

He added, “We love the idea that Black Operations were off the radar and creatively, you had that conceit that these guys could do all kinds of things. It didn’t have to fit into any kind of time period or preconceived notions of what these operations might be like.”

Lamia says that Treyarch told publisher Activision from the outset of the development process that it planned to do more than simply update the Black Ops concept and instead wanted to challenge some of the expectations of gamers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will tell a story set in two time periods and the team has been careful to emphasize the differences in weapons and equipment for the various operatives.

The game will star Alex Mason during the Cold War period and his son David during the near future plot.

The biggest change for the multiplayer side of the game is a new feature that allows any player to create his own class by picking up 10 features from a list of more than 100.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to launch on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on November 13 all over the world.
