The Kennedy Space Center, Shuttles and All, Is Now in Google Street View

Street View has been to many places. It's been to the Antarctic, it's been to Stonehenge, it's been to the Versaille and it's even been to quite a few streets around the world. But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of interesting locations to hit.

The latest addition to the ever-expanding coverage is the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, home base for some of the most iconic missions NASA undertook. It's also filled with stuff that will make any space enthusiast glee with excitement.

With the 50-year anniversary of the complex happening this year (it was last month actually), it's as good a time as any to have it available in Street View for the world to visit.

"A collaboration between NASA and Street View is enabling people around the world to take a trip to the doorway to outer space, and see Kennedy as it transitions into a multipurpose launch complex for the next 50 years of space innovation," Google's Ryan Falor wrote.

"Among the images you can now explore online with the click of your mouse are the space shuttle launch pad, Vehicle Assembly Building and Launch Firing Room #4," he wrote.

"Gaze down from the top of the enormous launch pad, peer up at the towering ceiling of the Vehicle Assembly Building (taller than the Statue of Liberty) and get up close to one of the space shuttle’s main engines, which is powerful enough to generate 400,000 lbs of thrust," he added.

The Kennedy Space Center is actually the biggest "non-street" location Google Street View visited so far. There are over 6,000 panoramic views of the location, totaling several tens of thousands of individual photos captured by the Street View vehicles and then stitched together to create a cohesive 360-degree view.

You can fire up Google Maps, go to the location of the Kennedy Space Center and then swoop into Street View to check out the sights or you can go to the dedicated gallery for a showcase of some of the most spectacular shots Google took.
