Tearaway Is Media Molecules Big PS Vita Bet

The PlayStation Vita handheld seems to be the main element in the near future strategy for Sony and that means that the company has brought out the big development guns, including Media Molecule, which announced that it was working on Tearaway, a new game which is inspired by paper and the way we interact with it.

Alex Evans, who is one of the co-founders of Media Molecule and has been a leader in creating Little Big Planet, has revealed that the team has been inspired by everything from doodling to origami and even simpler paper interactions to create Iota, the main character of the new game.

He is a paper envoy trapped inside the player’s Vita and the entire concept of the game is set to push creative gaming forward.

The colors of the game are muted and the entire gameplay evokes a cartoon character and his ability to move around the world while keeping the illusion of life.

Alex Evans has told the audience at Gamescom 2012 that the Tearaway concept is soo simple and engaging that “You have to play it to believe it..”

The trademark creativity of Media Molecule was on full display here, with a number of varied levels ranging from snow to water and simple yet deep control options, including actually folding paper and solving puzzles by simply using one finger on the back touch of the PlayStation Vita.

Evans also showed a version from Tearaway that involves keeping up a rhythm on the Vita touch screen in order to give commands while Iota battles a Cyclops.

It is not clear whether this is the game that Media Molecule has dedicated so much of its Research & Development process during the last few years or whether the company is still working on another title that will arrive on the PlayStation 3 or next generation devices.
