Office 365 Welcomes Bang & Olufsen to Its Customer List

Microsoft has added another popular company to its list of Office 365 customers, namely audio and video systems maker Bang & Olufsen.

The company chose to adopt Microsoft’s service to unify its email, calendaring, collaboration and communication and to take advantage of a less-expensive and easier to scale cloud solution than the Lotus Notes it has been using before.

Currently, the company has all of its 2,000 employees using the email and other collaboration capabilities that Office 365 has to offer to them.

“We investigated whether we should continue relying on internal servers or go with a cloud solution. And we realized that we could save money by going to the cloud with Office 365,” said Ole Damsgaard, senior director of IT & Shared Service Centre at Bang & Olufsen.

“It was easy to integrate Office 365 into our existing work environment and for our employees to start using it right away because they already know tools like Outlook and other Microsoft products.”

With around 75 percent of its employees working remotely, Bang & Olufsen needed an email solution that would provide them with fast access to the company’s network.

The previously used solution, Lotus Notes, enabled only 150 of these employees to access the email, courtesy of company-provided smartphones.

After being recommended to try out Office 365, the company decided that the investment would prove cost-effective, and that it would also provide it with time savings.

“We’re always in competition with other projects for funding,” Damsgaard said. “We have a limited amount of resources and money. Often, upgrading our software is secondary to meeting other business objectives.”

The adoption of Office 365 provides Bang & Olufsen with the possibility to greatly reduce its travel and IT costs, while also enabling better access and ease of use for its employees. Additionally, it provides the company with email, calendars and conferencing in a single place.

Office 365 also comes with seamless integration with other products, enabling one employee to quickly check a colleague’s calendar for availability, or to send an invitation via email or click the URL in the invite to start the meeting.

“Our employees are used to using Outlook and other Microsoft products. It was easy to integrate Office 365 into our existing work environment and for our workers to start using it right away because they already know the tools,” Damsgaard said. “And now, everybody who has a smartphone can very easily access their emails and calendars.”
