Nine Bulletins in Microsofts August 2012 Security Update, Five Critical

Next week, Microsoft will deliver its monthly security update for the various products that have been found to be affected by vulnerabilities in the past month.

A total of nine bulletins will be included in the new set of security patches, which is set to land on Tuesday, August 14th.

Out of nine, five bulletins are rated Critical, all patching security breaches that could allow for Remote Code Execution.

There are also four Important bulletins in the package, three resolving issues that could allow for Remote Code Execution and one aimed at vulnerabilities that could allow for Elevation of Privilege.

Microsoft did not offer specific info on the security holes that these patches are meant to resolve, but did confirm which products are affected.

Thus, there are five bulletins (three Critical and two Important) destined for Microsoft Windows, the first of them also resolving issues in Internet Explorer.

The fourth bulletin in the update, rated Critical, is destined to fix breaches in Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Server Software, and Microsoft Developer Tools. The fifth, also critical, is aimed at Microsoft Exchange.

The last two bulletins in the patch, both rater Important, should resolve vulnerabilities found to affect Microsoft Office.

Also there, you will find info on how Microsoft customers can “prioritize monthly security updates with any non-security, high-priority updates that are being released on the same day as the monthly security updates.”

Also next week, Microsoft is set to make available for download an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. It will be released via Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services, and through the company’s Download Center.

Along with the release of the August 2012 set of security updates, specific info on each of the aforementioned bulletins and on the vulnerabilities they are meant to resolve will be provided.
