One of the main developers working on Devil May Cry has explained the core differences between Japanese and Western game development approaches saying that the later start with visuals and then move to gameplay while the former take the opposing approach.
The situation might be different for other companies that are based in Japan and Itsuno says that much of the communication between himself and Ninja Theory has focused on finding a way to mix the two approaches in order to deliver a solid game experience.
He added, “We’ve been trying to find a hybrid system where we take a best of both worlds approach. It hasn’t been easy, but I think we’re happy with the results we have.”
Many fans of the Devil May Cry series reacted badly to the announcement that Ninja Theory was the team chosen to create the new game in the series, which is series to reboot the story of Dante.
The Japanese Capcom team working on the game has been impressed by how the Western developer is approaching motion capture and animation skills and also by the way individuals are encouraged to come up with their own ideas and implement them.
The new Devil May Cry introduces a changed Dante and focused more on the human element of the character.
The game is set to be launched during January 2013 on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and the PC version is also prepared for a later date.
