Match Day Fundamentally Changes FIFA 13 Gameplay

FIFA 13 is a game which needs to fill the already huge shoes of the 2012 installment of the football simulation series and the game's Gamescom 2012 presentation has suggested that the Match Day experience might be the secret weapon in the arsenal of EA Sports.

David Rutter, who is the executive producer working on FIFA 13 at the moment, told those who were watching the press conference that, “No two matches will ever be the same.”

This has been a mantra for the development team working on FIFA 13 since the game was first shown but so far Match Day has not received so many details.

The feature will allow in-game stats to reflect real world performances on the pitch, with the way each in-game match plays out influenced by what is taking place in the real world matches.

The idea is a radical one for the FIFA series, which has long been used by players to take a starting real world situation and then change it in significant ways, taking lowly teams and giving them performance that allow them to win big trophies.

Some long term gamers might be annoyed to see real world matches impact their own fantasy simulation but EA Sports has not detailed whether FIFA 13 Match Day can be turned off for long term campaigns.

Rutter has also talked about season and how they will be expanded by introducing a 2 versus 2 player cooperative game mode and persistent squad saves, with titles offered for all the included divisions and a new Trophy cabinet to show off the performance of each player.

Electronic Arts also offered information on the Ultimate Team game mode, which has become one of the biggest element of the franchise, and said that it will be featured more prominently in FIFA 13.
