According to recent news, the General Motors Company is to begin paying about $800,000 (roughly €640,000) less on its electricity bills for the Spring Hill manufacturing complex in Tennessee, as recent investments turned this facility into a highly energy efficient one.
However, what interests us first and foremost is that this greening-up of the Spring Hill manufacturing complex can and needs to be linked to considerable environmental benefits, seeing how the company's ecological footprint will be significantly diminished.
These are much more efficient when it comes to converting electrical power into light and therefore yield reduced energy costs on the long run, even if the money initially spent on having them installed can somehow offset budgets.
As well as this, Environmental Leader reports that the manufacturing complex in Tennessee will benefit from a wireless control system which basically deals with keeping a close eye on how various electrical gadgets and gizmos inside the building use electricity.
Thus, energy consumption can be scheduled and managed in such ways that this resource is just used, and definitely not abused.
In plain numbers: about 4,500 traditional light fixtures got swapped for fluorescent lights, and roughly 8.5 million kWh of electricity will be spared on a yearly basis.
From where we stand, this piece of news is proof that General Motors is more than willing to stand by its past promises of placing environmental protection at the center of its preoccupations.
