Dead Island Developer Is Working on Project Hell

Techland, the developer best known for its work on the Dead Island open-world zombie game, has announced that it was working on a new video game called Project Hell, which will use a fantasy setting and action-based mechanics.

The team says that the inspiration for Project Hell was a weapons mod that some of the developers at Techland have created for Dead Island, which was innovative enough to attract the attention of other developers.

Only a small team is now working on the game, which is being described as a hack and slash title set in a dark and depressing game world.

Marcin Kruczkiewicz, who is the project manager and the main designer working on Project Hell, stated, “We won’t be asking for your money on Kickstarter.”

He added, “Our main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don’t expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight. To achieve that we’ll use our experience already gained in game development and enhanced technology from Dead Island.”

The reference to Dead Island probably means that Project Hell will also be open world and will rely on a quest structure that allows the player to develop his character and discover new items even as the enemies around him grow in strength.

Techland has previously also worked on the video games in the Call of Juarez series that never reached the same audience as Dead Island, which will probably also receive a new entry in the coming years.

Project Hell does not have a clear launch window and the team has not talked about any potential platforms.

The name is also likely to change as the development process evolves and the game is picked up by a publisher.
