Wii U Version of Assassins Creed III Might Be Worth Waiting For

Assassin’s Creed III might be ready to deploy on the Xbox 360, the PC and the PlayStation 3, but in many ways the Nintendo Wii U version of the game is the one that might feel most complete to some gamers.

Alex Hutchinson, who is the creative director at Ubisoft working on Assassin’s Creed III, told the Official Nintendo Magazine that, “Assassin’s Creed 3 is obviously an open world game and we’re dealing with huge expanses.

“It’s by far the biggest Assassin’s Creed we’ve built to date so having a map – a larger map – at your disposal at all times is a big win. It allows you to plan your navigation, see when enemies are nearby so the bigger the map, the better in our universe.”

Speaking directly about the way the experience changes when using the Wii U and its tablet controller, the executive added that, “During combat on the Wii U, you always have access to all your other tools and weapons on the controller itself. So at any point you can very easily switch between your tomahawk and knife or hidden blades and sword without going into a menu.”

The new controller and its technology will be especially useful to those who plan on using the running assassination mode, which allows gamers to quickly take on enemies and switch weaponry before making a fast escape from the battlefield.

I saw the Wii U version of Assassin’s Creed III at this year’s edition of the E3 trade show, and the game ran very smoothly on the console, with the touch screen offering a constant stream of extra information to the player.

The big problem for the Nintendo Wii U is that the official launch date for Assassin’s Creed is set for October 30 on all other platforms, and it might be a problem to persuade gamers to wait and get the next-gen version.

Nintendo says that the Wii U will be out before Christmas.
