Whitney Houstons Mother Announces Memoir, Out in February

Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's mother, is getting ready to come out with a book on her daughter's life and her own way of dealing with the pain of her passing. The yet untitled memoir comes out in February, publisher HarperCollins has announced.

The book will deal both with Whitney's incredible ascension to international fame and with her darker times, her drug addiction and her troubled marriage to Bobby Brown, the man whom many still consider responsible for her terrible addiction that eventually killed her.

It will be an “unabridged and unbelievable story” of an amazing artist and a wonderful human being, HarperCollins promises, as cited by British tabloid the Daily Mail.

At the same time, it will be Cissy's way of offering fans one last thing to cherish from Whitney, something to hold onto now that she's gone: a frank insight into her life and personal demons.

“When I lost my daughter Nippy [Whitney Houston’s nickname], the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman,” Mrs. Houston says in a statement.

“In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter’s true story,” Whitney's mother adds.

HarperCollins would not reveal the exact amount Cissy Houston will receive to pen the book, but it did say that part of the proceeds from sales will go to charity, just what Whitney would have wanted.

“[Cissy Houston] will tell the unabridged and unbelievable story of her daughter’s life as well as her own, addressing Whitney’s brightest and darkest moments while helping fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon,” the publisher explains in the same statement.

“Ultimately, Cissy will go behind the headlines to show the true, human side of this strong, successful yet complicated musical icon, capturing the dramatic depths and soaring range of an extraordinary woman, along with the pain and heartbreak of a grieving mother as she struggles with impossible loss,” HarperCollins adds.
