Verizon Debuts New Internet Service, FiOS Quantum

Late last week, Verizon started touting a series of enhancements brought to its internet service, which became official today with the launch of its FiOS Quantum service.

Touted as a revolutionary service, FiOS Quantum is said to be capable of providing users with speeds of up to 300Mbps on the downlink.

The fast FiOS Internet service was made available for Verizon’s residential customers, and it can deliver download speeds of 50, 75, 150 and 300Mbps, along with upload speeds that range from 25Mbps to 35 and 65Mbps.

Basically, the new service can offer Internet speeds that are twice as fast as what was previously available for its customers.

“A revolution in speed has arrived,” Bob Mudge, president of Verizon’s consumer and mass market business unit, stated.

“The new FiOS Internet speed and bundle options provide incredible value, and represent the most significant mass scale, consumer broadband speed enhancement in the nation in the past decade.”

Although it can now offer much faster Internet services than before, Verizon also confirmed that it would keep the 15/5 Mbps offer in place for its users.

Users who would like to take advantage of what the new service has to offer to them will be able to get it either as a standalone service, or as part of Verizon’s double and triple-play bundles, Mashable reports.

Moreover, the services provider announced that existing customers would be able to upgrade to the new service for free, but that the cost of the service will increase by $10 to $15 per month.

Verizon also announced that the 300/65 Mbps plan would be offered only as a stand-alone product for $204.99 with the signing of a two-year contract, or for $209.99 on a monthly basis.

“As consumers stream and watch more movies, sports and shows in their homes and on devices other than traditional TVs, such as smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, Smart TVs and Blu-ray players, they need faster broadband to enhance their experience,” said Mike Ritter, CMO for Verizon’s consumer and mass market business unit.

More info on the service can be found on Verizon's website.
