Crytek, the developer in charge of the future Homefront 2 shooter, has confirmed that the ongoing financial problems of publisher THQ, who owns the Homefront franchise, haven’t affected the development of the new shooter.
THQ hasn’t been going through the best of times as a series of bad investments and lackluster sales have forced it to lay off quite a lot of its employees and has even started looking to sell some of its current projects, like Devil’s Third.
"There's been no tangible change whatsoever," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told CVG. "There have been a few meetings and the introduction of people and those meetings are always very transparent."
"To be fair, the way we're developing Homefront 2 is very isolated anyway. We're treating it as our own new IP and at the same time THQ is respecting us and saying, 'you guys know what you're doing' and telling us the story they'd like to have, which we're collaborating creatively on."
Homefront 1 was developed by Kaos Studios but, after the studio was shut down by THQ, the franchise moved to the company’s new THQ Montreal studio.
After a few months, it was announced that Crytek would be taking over development duties for the Homefront franchise, with its Crytek UK branch (formerly known as Free Radical) already working on Homefront 2.
As of yet, no actual announcements have been made concerning Homefront 2, and Yerli declined to talk about it.
As such, you can expect to hear the first details about the new shooter later this year or sometime in 2013.
