Robert Bowling Believes Creative Focus Should Drive Video Game Development

Robert Bowling is best known for his work at Infinity Ward, where he communicated with the fan base and mediated the interactions between the development team and the customers, but he is now leading his own development team and creating a new title called Human Element.

Robert Bowling, who is now leading his own team at Robotoki, spoke with GameFront and said that, “worked on Call of Duty for seven years, one of the biggest publishers in the industry. With some of that experience behind me, you learn a lot about what you don’t want.

รข€œYou learn a lot about what works well, like what makes a successful franchise, you learn a lot of great lessons. And part of that is learning ‘ok, this doesn’t work. This is not how you do it’.”

He added, “Our entire design philosophy is focusing on the creative team first, and everything else second. We’re not focused on the project, we’re focused on the team creating the project. If we nail the happy team, you’re going to get a good project.”

Many people were surprised to see Robotoki talk about their first title, Human Element, so soon after the firm itself was created.

Bowling says that announcing soon is not a problem because it allows the team to show some of their work to the public, generating interest, and also allows partners to come in and help with development.

Human Element is set to arrive at some point in 2015 on next-generation consoles, tablets, mobile phones and the PC.

The game is set during a zombie apocalypse and will allow players to choose from Action, Intelligence and Stealth classes and then choose from another three playing styles: Survive Alone, Survive with a Partner and Survive with a Young Child.

Bowling says that emotion and decisions will be at the core of the Human Element experience.
