For Neurotics, More Money Could Mean Less Happiness

Society would have us believe (a view to which I do not subscribe at all) that money brings happiness, but a new study demonstrates the exact opposite may be true, especially for neurotic individuals.

According to investigators at the University of Warwick, it would appear that personality traits significantly influence the satisfaction we receive from financial remuneration for our work.

In the case of neurotics, if a bonus or a pay rise does not amount to what they expected, the entire situation can be viewed as a failure, lowering their level of satisfaction with their lives.

“These results suggest that we see money more as a device to measure our successes or failures rather than as a means to achieve more comfort,” says study leader Dr. Eugenio Proto, quoted by PsychCentral.
