CCP Believes There Is Plenty of Innovation in the MMO Genre

Despite claims that there is no innovation in the field of MMOs coming from Matt Firor, the leader of ZeniMax Online, the developers at CCP believe that the genre has a lot of possibilities left and that solid teams can exploit them.

Kristoffer Touborg, the lead designer of EVE Online, has told PC Gamer that, “The best MMOs are entirely different. If you want my top five MMOs, they’re all completely different.

รข€œOther people have tried to replicate it afterwards, but the fact is that the unique MMOs are the ones that are going to survive for a long time. Those are the interesting ones. This genre has so much left.”

Dust 514, the upcoming shooter MMO to be launched on the PlayStation 3 and linked to EVE Online, is another example of innovation in the genre.

The game is set to arrive during this year while The Elder Scrolls Online is being prepared for a 2013 launch.
