The Great Gatsby Pushed Back from December 2012 to Summer 2013

If you were looking forward for Baz Luhrmann's take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby,” we have rather sad tidings: Warner Bros. has decided to push it back by six months.

Initially scheduled for December 2012, which would have made it a perfect awards season contender, the film will now drop in the summer, which allows the studio to dream of considerably bigger box office gross.

“Based on what we’ve seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way,” Dan Fellman of Warner Bros. says in a statement cited by Slash Film.

“We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible. The responses we’ve had to some of the early sneak peeks have been phenomenal, and we think The Great Gatsby will be the perfect summer movie around the world,” Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, another executive, adds.

In other words, response to the first promos of the film has been phenomenal and the movie plans to capitalize on that.

We can't complain, if it weren't for the fact that we now have to wait more to see it.
