Steam Big Picture Mode Enters Beta Stage in September

Valve has officially confirmed that it would release the beta stage for the Big Picture Mode for its Steam digital distribution service next month, finally allowing customers to use Steam on a big TV, not just on a computer monitor.

Steam is the most popular digital distribution service in the world, with Valve boasting over 40 million registered users.

While most people use Steam to play games on the PCs or laptops, quite a lot of them also like to experience them on big TVs in the living room, for example.

In order to make their experience a more pleasing one, Valve confirmed last year that it’s going to release a Big Picture mode for the service.

After a rather lengthy wait, the developer has finally revealed that the Steam Big Picture mode would be made available as part of a beta test next month.

"Heading to the living room - or anywhere there's a big screen - is Steam's soon-to-be-released big-picture mode, offering simple, easy-to-read navigation designed specifically for TV," Valve said. "With full controller support, big-picture mode will let gamers kick back and enjoy their favorite games on the biggest screen in the house.”

"Steam's big-picture mode doesn't require any additional development from you. Just ensure your game works well with a controller, and we'll take care of the rest. And don't worry, keyboard and mouse aren't going anywhere-users will be able to switch between input devices at any time.”

Just like with the recently released revamp of the Steam Community page, expect the Big Picture Mode to be made available for a certain number of users and then, depending on the feedback, to be rolled out for everyone who wants to try it out.

Expect to hear a concrete release date for the beta stage of the newest Steam feature soon.
