Madden NFL 13 Gets Key Packs for Ultimate Team

Developer EA Sports has announced that the Ultimate Team mode for Madden NFL 13 will get a new type of card which can only be obtained by reaching a certain type of in-game goal.

The Key Pack cannot be obtained via the familiar mode of microtransactions and gamers will need to complete either a team collection or a solo challenge mission in order to get access to them.

After a player obtains one of the Key Packs, he has the option of keeping it for himself in order to get a new collection and even better cards, or he can go to the Auction House and put it up for sales in order to get some serious in-game currency for it.

EA Sports says that it is delivering no less than 38 cards for the Key Packs when Madden NFL 13 launches, one of them linked to each of the 32 teams in the game and another special six that are linked to legendary figures from American football.

The EA Canada studio that has created Madden NFL 13 also has long-term plans to release more Key Packs, and the first new cards will be delivered alongside other Ultimate Team updates before the end of the year.

The Ultimate Team mode has become more popular with every new year and it allows players to create their own fantasy teams and then pit them against each other and then improve them via trades.

The mode introduced microtransactions to the series, which opened up a new revenue stream for Electronic Arts.

Madden NFL 13 will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Vita handheld, the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 on August 28 in the United States and August 31 in Europe.

The game will also get a Wii U launch when the new Nintendo device is finally out.
