LG Optimus Vu Going Global in September with Nvidia Tegra 3 Processor

Although LG Optimus Vu hit shelves for quite some time, the smartphone can only be purchased in South Korea and Japan.

However, following the success of the Optimus Vu in these two countries, LG announced the upcoming availability of the smartphone in other regions as well.

Starting with September, LG Optimus Vu will be slowly rolled out in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. There are no details on the phone’s exact release dates or pricing options, but we do know that LG plans to offer a better version of Optimus Vu.

Basically, the phone’s dual-core processor has been replaced with a quad-core CPU, though many would say that this is a mistake.

Anyway, the international version of the LG Optimus Vu won’t be coming with the usual dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5 GHz; instead, the South Korean company decided to put an Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU inside.

According to LG, the new CPU that powers the Optimus Vu is “the super 4-PLUS-1 quad-core with 5th battery-saver core, that offers a superb balance of performance and power requirements. 4 cores are used for high performance tasks such as games and multitasking.”

The rest of the phone’s specs sheet hasn’t been changed, so expect it to come with the same large 5.0-inch 4:3 ratio HD-IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports 768 x 1024 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

It will be packed with 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and an 8-megapixel rear camera. Hopefully, the international version of Optimus Vu will be launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

“The different form factor makes Optimus Vu: unique even in the 5-inch smartphone category which we expect will catch on once they become more widely available,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
