iPad 3 Now Cheaper, Available as Refurb

Apple’s Special Deals area has been flooded with third-generation iPads selling at cheaper prices because their original shipping box has been pried open. Discounts don’t go any higher than $50 at the moment, but they will climb up to $80 and even $100 in the coming months.

Saving buyers $50 / €40 on any configuration, the third-generation iPad is now officially a part of the “refurbished” section on Apple’s online store.

Dubbed Special Deals, this section of Apple’s online venue is reserved for selling pre-owned products that have undergone the company’s refurbishment process, which includes new cases, new accessories, and a renewed 1-year warranty.

The Cupertino giant itself explains that, “Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple's stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale.”

“While only some units are returned due to technical issues, all units undergo Apple's stringent quality refurbishment process,” says the company.

Apple refurbs are in 100% working condition when sold. However, it does ask customers to note that, “As these refurbished products have been unpacked and manipulated, they might however exhibit some minor cosmetic imperfection, such as scratches, marks or discolorations.”

The cheapest refurbished iPad 3 you’ll find today is a $449 (€363) unit painted white and equipped with 16 gigs of flash storage. It’s got no cellular capabilities, but who can resist that crisp Retina display?

More expensive units, such as the Refurbished iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular 16GB - Black - AT&T (current generation), will have customers forking for $579 (around €469).

The listings include the purchase price, the amount saved, and more technical specifications than you could ask for.
