Google to Give Out Free WiFi in Malls, Bundled with Offers

For a few years now, Google has been offering free WiFi as a promotional tool. Around the holiday season, it typically partners with an airline to offer free WiFi in-flight.

Last year it offered the same in airports. A similar program was started for the New York subway and a few other areas in the city.

Now it's expanding on that idea and will offer free WiFi in certain malls, eight of them in total, across the US and 16 more airports.

Google is partnering with Boingo for this, but hasn't said which malls will be getting the offer. It only said that some of them will be in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tampa and Seattle.

The service is free, as in you don't pay for it, but it is ad supported. In this case, Google is shilling its Offers program. Users will first encounter a page with the day's offers in that area before being allowed to proceed and start browsing.
