Go Figure, Embedding Videos Is Not Copyright Infringement, Says Judge

This one should go without saying but, unfortunately, in today's world it's actually put up for debate: embedding infringing videos is not a crime. That's what the vast majority of people would say, but thankfully, a judge said it too.

In a case surrounding a site that offered links to videos that were infringing, the judge made it clear that the links to those videos, the embedded videos or even the people watching them are not infringing.

The only one that is infringing is the one that uploaded them to the web in the first place. This means that any website that is embedding a video or "hosting" a link to any particular infringing video or file is not infringing and therefore can't be taken to court over copyright matters.

This also means that copyright owners can't issue takedown notices since, again, there's no infringement happening. It's just a court decision and there have been plenty that have seen it otherwise, but it's encouraging to see that sometimes judges to get it right.
