The success of the upcoming Beyond: Two Souls will make it clear for both the video game and the movie industries that actors can be used to create a strong connection between gamers and the adventures they engage in.
He added, “If the game is successful, and if her performance is seen as something that proved the quality of the experience, it’s going to be a signal to the industry that says ‘look, it’s possible to do games this way’. But it will also be a signal for Hollywood to say, ‘this is now a respectable medium. If you are a talented actor, there are games that give you the opportunity to show what you can do, and to treat your emotions in the same way that films do.”
Cage says that video games are still viewed inadequately in Hollywood and that most actors are not interested in being part of the industry.
Beyond: Two Souls has a chance to change the image and convince more high-profile actors to become linked to the medium.
David Cage has a long history of creating video games where the focus is on emotions rather than on action elements and after the success of Heavy Rain the company he is leading, Quantic Dream, is doubling down with Beyond.
The game will star Ellen Page and its narrative will cover tens of years, allowing players to answer questions about what happens after death.
Beyond: Two Souls is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and will be launched during the first quarter of 2013.
