EA Sports Plans More Kinect Integration for FIFA and Madden

The Kinect motion tracking system from Microsoft is not just a fad and the sports simulation division at publisher Electronic Arts plans to include it in as many titles as possible in the near future, after making it a part of the Tiger Woods PGA franchise and recently announcing it as a feature for Madden NFL 13.

Andrew Wilson, who is the leader of the EA Sports division, has told MCV that, “I think that there are opportunities for both. Certainly when we embarked on using Kinect for FIFA and Madden, we sat down and watched people play our games. The same when we put Kinect into Tiger Woods, we sat and watched people play our games.”

He added, “When we looked at people playing FIFA and Madden, what we noticed was that they screamed at the screen a lot. A lot. They were pushing the buttons, and simultaneously shouting commands, almost at themselves. It felt like a natural transition for us to make that screaming mean something. I’m actually really excited about what we’ve done.”

EA Sports announced that it was supporting more than 6,000 commands via Kinect for Madden NFL 13, allowing gamers to navigate the game quicker and move faster through the various game phases.

Wilson believes that, as long as gamers continue to shout commands at their screen while playing sports games, the EA Sports team will have opportunities to do more with Kinect.

Rumors suggest that Microsoft will completely integrate motion tracking and voice recognition in its next home console and EA Sports might be adding Kinect features now in order to prepare for the future.

Madden NFL 13 will be launched on home consoles and on a number of mobile devices on August 28.

This year EA Sports will also launch FIFA 13 in late September and new content is also planned for NHL and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.
