Dropbox Site Now Instantly Displays File Changes, No More Spamming Refresh

Dropbox has been putting a lot of effort into the website recently and for good reason. While the core of the service will remain the native apps, a powerful and simple web app completes the platform, making sure that users are able to get to their files, with ease, in any circumstance.

The latest addition is a minor one, but it's one of those small things that make a huge difference in user experience. The Dropbox website now automatically updates any change you make to files and folders via one of the apps or even via the website from another browser.

This means that changes will become (near) instantly visible and you won't have to constantly hit the refresh button to see if the files have been updated.

It's a great update if you're waiting for someone to upload some files, to share with you, or to see if a file you deleted locally has been deleted from the cloud and so on.

"We just released some new magic on the Dropbox website. Now when you make a change to a file on your computer or phone, the Dropbox website instantly updates to reflect those changes," Dropbox's Danny Weinberg wrote.

"You no longer have to hit refresh as you wait for your friend to share those super-important files or worry about getting out of sync. The latest files just automatically appear on your page. After all, every second counts," he said.

The change should be immediately visible so you can already check it out for yourself. Asynchronous and push updates aren't exactly cutting edge technology on the web, but it's nice to see them working seamlessly in Dropbox. It would be nice to see developers get access to this functionality too.
