Core i5 3350P Ivy Bridge Coming in Q3 2013

Semiconductor companies like Intel are not manufacturing the silicon wafers they use to make the CPUs. The wafers are bought from companies that specialize in such technology and it’s in the CPU manufacturer’s best interest not to waste any amount of wafer surface.

On a complex design like Nvidia’s Kepler or AMD’s Tahiti, out of the 3.5 billion or 4.3 billion transistors respectively, some might not function properly. As such, the companies will likely disable some units that contain the malfunctioning transistors and still be able to sell the GPU with a lesser profit margin.

Intel’s Ivy Bridge yields are quite good now and there aren’t many CPUs with defective iGPUs, but these CPUs do exist and the company believes that enough such CPUs will pile up until Q3 2012 to offer a good supply of GPU-less Ivy Bridge processors.

Therefore, the company is reportedly planning to launch such a CPU called Core i5 3350P next summer.

The new processor has a base frequency of 3100 MHz and four cores with no HT technology.
The TDP will not be too impressive as we’re dealing with a 95W TDP unit.
