BlackBerry Wind Concept Phone Runs Windows Phone Pro

RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones are among the most popular devices around the world, yet they have been losing ground on the market lately.

Thus, Research In Motion might be forced to find a new formula for its devices to make them highly popular once again, and might even consider loading another platform on them.

With BlackBerry 10 coming up in several months, there’s little chance that this might actually happen, but that does not mean that enthusiasts are not allowed to dream of what the future might bring along.

One of them, Valentin Gallard, came up with the BlackBerry Wind concept device that can be seen in the photos attached to this article (via Yanko Design).

Unlike other BlackBerry concepts, this one is not powered by BlackBerry 10, but runs under Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

In fact, it is powered by an exclusive flavor of the platform, one that includes not only Microsoft’s specific Windows Phone applications, such as the Office Mobile software, but also RIM’s various BlackBerry tools, for increased productivity and ease of use.

The phone has the looks as well, with straight lines and a business-like design that sports elements of both Windows Phone and BlackBerry ecosystems.

On the front, the BlackBerry Wind concept phone features a large 4-inch touchscreen display, capable of delivering a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution and protected by Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The concept device is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core application processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM.

The phone also features support for 4G LTE connectivity, as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with all the features of cameras in today’s high-end smartphones, and a 2MP camera on the front for making video calls.

The handset is only 8mm thick, with a microUSB port at the bottom, stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack, and all the features and capabilities that other smartphones sport today.

It’s hard to say whether RIM will ever choose to adopt Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, but we can be sure that, if it will ever come to the market with a phone like this, it would attract a lot of users on its side.
