Baidu Employees Arrested After Receiving Payments for Deleting Posts

Four Baidu employees are suspected of deleting posts from websites in return for various amounts of money. Three of them have already been arrested and the fourth one has been fired, Global Times reports.

The Chinese search engine’s representatives state that they plan on closing such “loopholes” to avoid future incidents.

This situation highlights the fact that there’s an entire market revolving around deleting negative posts and reviews that could affect a company’s reputation.

A staff member of a firm that specializes in keeping a company’s reputation clean reveals that the price for deleting a post from a forum is around $159 (128 EUR). The cost doubles when it comes to removing articles from a blog and triples for pieces published on news sites.

For prices up to $32,000 (25,000 EUR) per year, the professional post removers can ensure that all negative reviews are deleted.
