Australia Allows Google to Delete the Street View WiFi Data

Google is once again cleaning up the mess it made with Street View cars snooping in on public WiFi transmissions. Google was investigated in the countries involved, but in most cases it was ordered to delete the data it had captured and that was that.

The conclusion of the FCC report earlier stirred up the problem once again, but it didn't look like much would come out of it. But then Google once again revealed that it screwed up and that it hadn't deleted all of the data it said it had deleted.

This was true for most of the countries which had already given the go-ahead for the data to be removed. Apparently, some small portions survived on some of the HDDs used by Street View cars.

Privacy regulators in the UK and France were none too happy about this, but it seems that Australia is taking a more relaxed approach. The Australian Privacy Commissioner told Google to go ahead and delete the remaining data after he was notified that not all of it had been removed as had been agreed.
