Oracle Plans to Appeal Google Infringement Lawsuit Decision

In a completely predictable turn of events, Oracle is now appealing the ruling in its lawsuit against Google. The jury found that Google did not infringe on Oracle's patent and copyright and the judge further decided that programming language APIs weren't covered by copyright in the first place, at least in this particular case.

It was a complete disaster for Oracle, which ended up paying millions of dollars to its lawyers, Google's lawyers and the court, for nothing.

Oracle has now made it official and will be filing an appeal. There aren't that many other details, but Oracle did notify the judge of the plans.

Google's initial victory was clear, but it's by no means final. Such a high-stakes lawsuit would have seen an appeal no matter the outcome, so the latest move is hardly surprising. What is clear is that we'll be hearing about this case for a few more years to come.
