Microsoft Increases Security Around Xbox Buildings to Prevent Data Leakage

As the company gears up for a new gaming console, Microsoft last week sent notifications to its employees in order to let them know about new “physical security measures” that will limit their access to certain buildings in the Redmond campus.

Basically, the famous technology giant is trying to prevent data leakage that could allow rival companies to find out about the company’s upcoming console before it hits the market.

GeekWire.com writes that four key Xbox and Interactive Entertainment Business buildings will benefit from increased security measures, as all of them are playing a key role for the company’s upcoming products.

Microsoft’s Studios A, B, C and D on the west side of state Route 520 will implement new security levels this month, so only registered employees will have open access to these facilities.

Workers and vendors without free access will need to register online and submit an information form before entering the buildings, but an on-site registration process will also be possible in case an employee can escort the visitor.

Microsoft hasn’t released any official information on the new physical security measures, but it’s pretty clear that the company struggles to ensure confidentiality of its upcoming products.

Besides the massive product debuts prepared for this fall, Microsoft’s Xbox studios are also planning a new gaming console, but only limited information is available on this subject. The company didn’t confirm the official launch date of the new Xbox console, but it’s believed that such a product is very likely to be released in the fall of 2013.
