StarCraft 2s Multiplayer Might Go Free-to-Play, Blizzard Says

Blizzard has talked about its hugely successful StarCraft 2 real-time strategy game and has revealed that it’s been thinking about making the multiplayer mode free-to-play, although the studio is unsure how to make money off it.

StarCraft 2 came out quite a few years ago and Blizzard is currently putting the finishing touches on its next chapter, Heart of the Swarm.

Meanwhile, the studio’s lead designer, Dustin Browder, has revealed that he and his team have thought about making the multiplayer in StarCraft 2 free-to-play.

Sadly, before you get excited about the possibility of engaging in online matches for free, Browder highlights that the studio is unsure how to monetize the experience, as it’s hard to decide what things players need to pay for.

"While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that's not going to be an enjoyable experience for them," he said, via PCGamesN.

Those who are still unsure about buying the game can try out the StarCraft 2 Starter Edition for free via Blizzard’s Battle.net system.
