Sony Needs to Make Vita Version of Borderlands 2 Happen

Speaking to IGN, the leader of Gearbox Software has placed the burden of delivering a PlayStation Vita version of Borderlands 2 on the shoulders of Sony, the hardware maker, who should be able to choose a development studio and then collaborate on the game development.

Speaking to IGN, Randy Pitchford, the boss of Gearbox, stated, “If some other studio was capable and could be trusted by us, and by a publishing partner, and by Sony, and someone wanted to invest in making that happen? I think Sony should step up and make that happen.”

Gearbox is a busy studio and Pitchford has already stated that his company lacks the resources to create a PlayStation Vita port of Borderlands 2.

It seems that the developer is also interested in the idea of sharing cloud saves between the PS3 and the Vita version of his game.

The PlayStation Vita has failed to generate the sales that Sony was expecting, but the company has said that it plans to continue to support the device with big launches in 2013.

Traditionally, handheld ports that are created by third parties tend to be lower in terms of quality than the series that they are associated with.

Borderlands 2 will take gamers back to Pandora and will allow them to pick from four new characters classes before embarking on a quest to rid the planet of Handsome Jack and his Hyperion corporation.

The developers have promised that the game will have an even more original art style and that there are more customization options than ever for the weapons the characters can use.

Borderlands 2 will be launched on September 18 in North America and three days later in Europe and can be played on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
