Shuttle Endeavour to Fly Over California on September 21
Due to an unfavorable weather forecast along its designated flight path, space shuttle Endeavour's final trip has been postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday, September 19. The new schedule implies that the orbiter will make its flyover of northern California on September 21.
The spacecraft is attached to the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), which is nearing the end of its mission as well. Both are currently stationed at the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC), in Florida, the home of the Space Shuttle Program for more than 30 years.
As it's being ferried to California, Endeavour will fly over the KSC Visitor Complex, the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the Patrick Air Force Base. It will then head west, over the NASA Stennis Space Center, in Mississippi and the Michoud Assembly Facility, in New Orleans.
Other flyover targets include the Johnson Space Center, White Sands Test Facility, near Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, at the Edwards Air Force Base, in California. Its final destination is the California Science Center, in Los Angeles.
