Pioneer Updating SC Receivers with Apple Lossless

Pioneer Electronics Inc. has announced plans to offer a new firmware update to add support for Apple Lossless, AIFF and gapless playback on its 2012 Elite SC receivers, SC-65, SC-67 and SC-68, as well as the Pioneer-branded SC-1522 receiver.

Clearly the flagship format of this story, Apple Lossless (also known as ALAC) allows the exact data to be reconstructed from the compressed data, Pioneer informs.

A new firmware update from the speaker company will increase high-resolution digital music options for music lovers using one of the systems enumerated above. If that’s you, don’t fret just yet. The 2012 SC receiver firmware will only be available in winter.

Pioneer said the addition of Apple Lossless was necessary because “there is an increasing growth in the consumption of high-definition media and an increase in the availability and access to high-resolution uncompressed and lossless compressed digital music file formats that deliver more accurate and detail audio reproduction for a greatly improved listening experience.”
