Lost Planet 3 Is More Cinematic, Has Stronger Protagonist

The coming third installment of the Lost Planet franchise will use more story elements inserted in the gameplay in order to give players a long-term reason to get through the game and will also include more of an emphasis on weather effects and patterns.

Andrew Szymanski, who is the producer working on Lost Planet 3 at Spark Unlimited, has told the official Capcom Unity at the Tokyo Games Show that, “In the case of Lost Planet, the creative director came to me, and he knew that we wanted to go for a more narrative direction, a more cinematic direction with a strong protagonist, and that we wanted to kind of bump up the ante, if you will, on the shooter mechanics of the game.”

The developer believes that, “It was sort of natural progression.”

The emphasis on the story of Lost Planet 3 has been prompted by careful analysis of the way the previous two titles in the series appeal to players.

Speaking about the weather, Szymanski explained that the team was aiming for a varied experience so it is introducing weather patterns that will change how an area looks when the player visits it for a second time, and it will even introduce new enemies that he has to deal with.

The planet of E.D.N. III is caught in an ice age during the events of Lost Planet 3, and cold and ice will play a key role during the gameplay.

Lost Planet 3 will include both on foot and mech-based sections and players will have to explore a hostile environment where both the weather and the local fauna are deadly.

We got some playtime with Lost Planet 3 during the recent Gamescom 2012 event.

Lost Planet 3 will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 during the first few months of next year.
