Developer Says ZombiU Is Harder than Call of Duty

The team working on the upcoming ZombiU for the Wii U home console says that, despite the shooter structure, the game is not aiming to compete in the zombie-killing genre with the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Jean-Phillipe Caro, the creative director working on ZombiU, tells the Official Nintendo Magazine that, “The market is going towards more action games. Call Of Duty is driving the market and everyone is going to Call Of Duty’s market. When we had to work with Nintendo we had two screens to make a new experience.”

ZombiU is designed to show off the possibilities of the Wii U, which means that solid use of the GamePad controller was fundamental to the development of the game.

Call of Duty is a fast game where quick reactions are fundamental to success, but in ZombiU players cannot move fast because they need to pay attention to the GamePad and the information that it is offering.

“If you play like in Call Of Duty, you will die. You will have to learn how to use the GamePad as your survival kit. If you listen carefully to your GamePad, you will succeed because the game is hard,” Jean-Phillipe Caro goes on to explain.

ZombiU could be the new Dark Souls in terms of difficulty, creating a new breed of hardcore gamers linked to the Wii U.

Nintendo has been pushing the GamePad as the main innovation of the new Wii U home console and it needs developers to use it in innovative ways in order to generate sales.

ZombiU is one of the Wii U launch titles, which means that players will get access to it on November 18 in North America and November 30 in Europe, while those in Japan will be able to play it on December 8.
