Tim Schafer Has More Psychonauts Stories to Tell

Despite the fact that fans have been asking for a Psychonauts sequel for some time, the development team at Double Fine is not yet sure whether the game will ever become reality.

Greg Rice, who is a producer working at Double Fine, has told VG247 that the love that the first Psychonauts gets from fans is “flattering and Tim has ideas for sequels to every game we’ve ever made. I think it always comes down to what kind of studio resources are available, and who’s available to make games.”

He added, “But yes, Psychonauts 2 is something that comes up a lot and it’s something that we’d definitely be interested in doing. It’d just be a large game, and that’d mean pretty much the entire studio working on it for multiple years, so it’s just a matter of finding funding and finding out how to take it forward.”

Rice says that a sequel would be a big project and that Double Fine would need a publisher to offer the resources required.

He also admitted that Tim Schafer, the leader of Double Fine, has more stories linked to the series that could be turned into successful video games.

The producer suggested that Kickstarter, which Double Fine has turned to in order to fund its new adventure game projects, would not be enough to support a new game project like Psychonauts 2.

Psychonauts was the first video game that Double Fine created and was launched in 2005 on the PC, the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox.

The game quickly reached cult status and impressed critics, although it failed to be a commercial success on launch.

Psychonauts is a platform title with many gameplay twists and most of its charm is linked to the narrative, the setting and the main character, Raz.
