The Old Republic Will Get One Major Update Every Six Weeks

Star Wars: The Old Republic is set to make the move to the free-to-play business model during November of this year but this will not affect the pace of new updates for the game, with developer BioWare aiming to introduce new content every six weeks.

Matt Bromberg, who leads the Austin BioWare studio, has told AusGamers that, “We’re committed to: about every six weeks, doing a major update for the game which would be a new Warzone, a new Operation, a new Flashpoint, a new event — and to doing that on a really frequent cadence, every six weeks. So we’re going to stick to that.”

The general manager then went on to explain the way players who had subscribed up until then to the MMO would be rewarded when the switch to free-to-play was finally made.

He added, “So you get credit, not just for becoming a subscriber now, going forward, but also for all the time that you were a subscriber, you get more credits and more coin. So we’re hoping that that will encourage people to come back to the game and try it now.”

The free-to-play move will allow any player to enjoy the MMO and explore all the content that BioWare has offered for it.

Those who choose to pay for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be able to better control the customization options of their characters and will have more options when it comes to grouping and social interactions.

BioWare created the Austin studio specifically to offer long-term support for its first MMO.

The game is set to soon get access to the 1.4 update which will include a new Terror from Beyond raid designed for high level players.

Electronic Arts and BioWare have high hopes for Star Wars: The Old Republic on launch, but the game failed to challenge World of Warcraft and has been dropping subscribers since early 2012.
