Rumor Mill: Half-Life 3 Is Open World, Launches During 2014

A source close to video game developer Valve has revealed that the much-awaited Half-Life 3 will have an open-world structure and that there are no plans to launch the game during 2013.

The anonymous source has told Journaldugamer that Half-Life 3 had a very chaotic development process earlier during the decade and that Valve has decided to revise its core structure and start anew.

Initially, the game was a straight-up first-person shooter, but it seems that the quality of the end product was not satisfactory so Valve decided to introduce puzzles and exploration to the experience.

The source says that the new Half-Life 3 will have an open-world structure, individual quests to be completed and a large cast of non-player characters to interact with.

A number of elements taken from the role-playing game have also been added to the game.

The source from Valve says that the name of the game on launch will be Half-Life 3 and not Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

The insider also revealed that the game will not get a launch date during 2013, but he suggested that it might be introduced during 2014.

Valve has not offered any information on Half-Life 3 and the company is well known for working in almost complete secrecy when it wants to, only giving players information on a project close to the actual launch date.

Since Half-Life 2 was launched, Valve has created and introduced a number of other game series, including the very successful Portal.

At the moment the developer is working on DOTA 2, a MOBA title that will aim to deliver a player-friendly environment.

Valve has also expanded the functionality of digital distribution service Steam and has suggested that it sees a bigger role for itself in the hardware market.
