Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the president of Nintendo of America, has revealed that despite what some analysts might saym the price for the upcoming Wii U is right for the current market conditions.
Speaking to GI.biz, the executive stated, “The way that we approach consumer value is we want to make sure we give the consumer a lot for what they pay and when you look at that basic model you get the innovation in the GamePad – and all of the gaming options that presents – you get Miiverse in terms of a gaming community, you get Nintendo TVii, you get video chat.”
Nintendo was also criticized for the high price of the 3DS handheld on launch and the company reacted to underwhelming sales by cutting it by about 33 percent in all territories.
But it seems that the 3DS scenario will not repeat itself when it comes to the Wii U.
Fils-Aime says “we don’t believe in pricing a product and then having to reduce the price some short time later. When we had to do that for 3DS, it was a very painful proposition for us.”
The executive talked about the price of the original Wii, which remained stable for three and a half years after launch, and expressed confidence that the situation will be the same for the Wii U.
He also revealed that Nintendo plans to make money on the new home console from launch, even if Reggie Fils-Aime would not comment on how much the Wii U costs to manufacture.
The new console is out starting with November 18 in North America and Japan gets it last on December 8.
