Microsoft to Launch Windows 8 Lync App in October

Microsoft will debut Windows 8 and Windows RT-compatible versions of the Lync app in late October, most likely just after the introduction of the company’s new operating system.

Lync, which is a communication suite aimed at enterprises, will come with a wide range of improvements, including Skype integration, meaning that all users of the 2013 version will be able to see online status and send messages or call contacts via Skype.

The Lync app will be available via the Windows Store, and although it’s one of the apps bundled into the Office suite, Microsoft doesn’t plan to release the whole Office in October. Instead, it’s generally believed that the new product will only be unveiled in the first quarter of 2013.

However, Microsoft confirmed that the app would be compatible with both Lync Server 2010 and Lync Server 2013 and would provide access to a “reimagined Lync” version for the new Windows Experience.
