Guild Wars 2 Launch Is Keeping Developer ArenaNet from Sleeping

ArenaNet, the developer of the recently launched Guild Wars 2 MMORPG, has admitted that its team hasn’t been getting that much sleep in the last week, as the online title needs constant supervision and attention in order to ensure that players are having a great time.

Guild Wars 2 went live one week ago and its developer, ArenaNet, has been hard at work trying to keep it operational and to punish players who are using offensive language or who are taking advantage of exploits.

Now, the studio’s Founder and President, Mike O’Brien, has talked with GamesIndustry about the general atmosphere at ArenaNet and admitted that his employees weren’t getting that much sleep due to the constant attention given to the game.

"The magnitude of this launch just dwarfs everything we have done in the past, and there are certain things you just can't predict,” he said. “Certainly right now none of us are sleeping very much, as we make sure we iron out everything that our customers are running into, and trying to make this launch as smooth as possible."

The recently launched game requires a lot of efforts, ranging from customer support to making sure that the servers are handling the huge number of users.

"Right now it's all hands on deck. We're in the middle of a launch, and we want to make sure that the game is off to a great start. We want to make sure that players are having a flawless experience in the game, so as things crop up that we need to address we're working around the clock to address them. We've got the whole company focused on the live game and addressing everything that comes up," O’Brien added.

"There are so many people playing right now, our servers are under such stress. And they're holding up pretty well, but there are little things going on all the time that we need to chase down. And so we're literally working around the clock trying to make sure that all our players are having a great experience."

Besides the use of exploits and other such issues, Guild Wars 2’s launch hasn’t experienced that many problems.
